O Shot

O Shot

The “O-Shot” refers to a procedure injecting PRP or platelet-rich plasma into the clitoral region and anterior vaginal wall.  This procedure was pioneered by Dr. Charles Runels, a gynecologist from Fairhope, Alabama.  I received my training from Dr. Michael Goodman who is an official O-Shot Trainer designated by Dr. Runels.

There are numerous studies looking at the use of PRP for many conditions.  PRP is derived from drawing the patient’s own blood and spinning this down in a process to isolate the platelets and growth factors.  This may then be injected or used in a variety of procedures to enhance healing, tissue regeneration, the formation of new blood vessels, and improved collagen production.  This is very similar to the idea of stem cell therapy.

This was initially used in orthopedic procedures to enhance the healing process but is now often used for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures.  The O-Shot involves an injection of the PRP at the base of the clitoral glans and also just inside the vaginal wall in the area of the presumed G-spot.  Topical numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure and a small amount of lidocaine injected as well so there is minimal discomfort.    The entire process takes about 15-20 minutes and patients may resume normal activities immediately following the procedure so there is no downtime.

The O-Shot has been shown to be beneficial for improving orgasm (frequency as well as intensity), mild urinary incontinence, and vaginal dryness.  The effects generally become evident between 1-3 weeks following injection and may last from 1-3 years.  Injections can be repeated when necessary.
